Homemade meat sauce
The secrets to an addicting, reported-to-be-the-best-tasting spaghetti sauce in the entire world are: long simmering, lots of red wine and garlic salt, and a blend of ground beef (or turkey) and hot Italian sausage (no casings). After sautéing chopped onion, chopped bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, ground meat and sausage, stir in tomato puree/paste/sauce, bay leaf, wine, oregano, basil, sugar and freshly grated Romano. Simmer for 1½ hrs. Correct flavors to taste with wine, spices and/or garlic salt. Serve with extra cheese over hot cooked pasta. Notes: sauce can be refrigerated up to 5 days/frozen up to 3 mo; will taste even better the next day; can sub freshly grated Parmesan and use alt sweeteners; use wine you’d like to drink.
