Coed Spring Basketball League-Ages 3-11
My boys are playing – join us! The league focuses on learning the basics of basketball, developing the skills associated with playing basketball, and making sure everyone gets a chance to play! 5k Illuminations Glow Run for Guide Dogs of America

Two local seniors from Chaminade High School, Sydney Levy and Sophia D’Atri, as part of their senior project, are planning an incredible event to support a worthwhile cause, Guide Dogs of America. There will be puppies and guide dogs at the event and they will be giving out glow sticks and glowing face paint to run or walk or just have fun on a lit path, starting at dusk; it will be a lot of fun and all money raised goes in support of this great foundation. Come out and support this fun & glowing event. “The Joys and Challenges of Your One Through Five Year Old,” with the wonderful Bette Alkazian, LMFT

Temple Etz Chaim invites the community to a free parenting seminar with local parenting expert Bette Levy Alkazian who will speak on “The Joys and Challenges of your 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 year old.” This talk covers the hallmarks of the developmental stages of these ages, what a parent can expect so they can keep expectations appropriate, what some of the typical challenges are of these ages, and what the children are discovering at the various ages about themselves and their worlds.
 
 
Make a big pot of meat sauce
Serves 6-8. Cook a pot of ground beef (or turkey), Italian sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, onion, spices, 3 tomato products, red wine and Romano cheese for about 2 hrs. Serve over cooked pasta. Notes: will taste even better the next day; can be refrigerated up to 5 days, frozen up to 3 mo; this meat sauce is so good that canned/jarred sauces should only be used for emergencies.

Play and Grow Smart-er Tips
Nancy Pyne-Hapke, author of “Play and Grow Smart, A Guide Supporting Brain Development, Birth through Five,” has been giving tips to aid your child’s optimum skill development through proactive neuroscience-based activities weekly on Jen’s List since 2010. These ideas come from scholarly sources to personal interviews, from the internet to periodicals to books.
9- to 12-month-old SKILL DEVELOPMENT discussion:
*  Q: What do we mean by Developmental Skills? 
    A: (in no special order) tactile, visual, auditory, gross 
    and fine motor, social/emotional, creativity, life skills, 
    language and vocabulary, math/logic 
    (thinking/learning) and music.
*  BEGIN to build a “learning library” of “developmental 
    learning tools” designed to grow as Baby grows:
    –  consider choosing toys (Learning Tools) with 
          multiple features and developmental skill 
          elements that stimulate Baby AND (your future) 
          Toddler AND Preschooler;
    –  ex. Baby may stack 2 blocks at 6 mo, and make
          structural creations with lots of blocks later.
