Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Annual non-denominational Candlelight Service
December 13th at 6pm in Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary’s Chapel of the Oaks
The service is open to everyone in the community and no reservation is needed. There will be a “Tree of Remembrance” located in the lobby. Community members are encouraged to bring a photo or other memento and hang it on the tree. Pierce Brothers will also serve as a collection spot for the “Toys for Tots” drive for needy children in the community. New, unwrapped toys can be brought to the office at any time through December 21st.

It’s time for potato kugel, the easy way
For the uninitiated, complementing a dinner roast or breakfast eggs and performing well as a party appetizer (with applesauce or fruit chutney, creme fraîche, or caviar and chives), a potato kugel is a massive hash brown with profoundly crispy edges and steamy-soft insides. In a preheated cast iron skillet or casserole baking dish, bake a mixture of onion, potatoes, potato starch, s&p, eggs and your choice of fat for 75-80 min. Best served hot. Serves 12. Notes: will keep in the fridge for 4 days or months in the freezer; can be baked in muffin tins (adjust cooking time), recipe can be halved.
