Try this Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake After browning/charring 10 oz marshmallows in the broiler (then cooling), blend/process with milk (any), vanilla extract, sour cream/plain yogurt (cuts the sweet and gives tang) and vanilla ice cream. Pour into chilled 8 oz glasses and garnish with whipped cream (opt) and 1 warm perfectly toasted marshmallow (browned over a gas burner or with your kitchen torch). Serves 4-5. Can be doubled or tripled. For a party, prepare the marshmallow/milk/vanilla/sour cream portion and keep chilled, then when ready to serve, blend with ice cream. These ideas come from scholarly sources to personal interviews, from the internet to periodicals to books. “FINE MOTOR” developmental skill definition: controlling and coordinating small muscle movements (dexterity in grasping, pincer movements, lateral movements, squeezing, threading, building, shaking, turning, spinning, pasting, lacing, cutting, drawing, writing, etc.), eye-hand coordination. THE CRITICAL WINDOWS during which the circuits of the brain are being most heavily wired for Fine Motor development is 3 – 10 years. The more opportunity children have to experience healthy, positive and nurturing Fine Motor experiences during this critical period, the more efficiently their brains will work over the long run. A FEW DEVELOPMENTAL LEARNING TOOLS (toys and other objects) for FINE MOTOR development: push and pull toys, hand-held teethers, toys that squeak, rattles, puzzles, sorters and stackers, activity sets, hands-on products, play phones, craft projects, construction sets, cause-and-effect investigative toys.
