Because no child is ordinary, every child deserves an extraordinary education

Does your child have passions or goals that are not being addressed in school? Is your child an actor or entertainer who requires a teacher around his/her schedule? Is your child an athlete who trains daily and would benefit from a tailor-made educational program and schedule? EMA provides education management for children ages 4 – 18, including tutoring & mentoring. They start with your child’s goals, create an educational plan aligned to those goals, then find and manage the resources needed to bring that plan to life. For information, call 818-522-4482 or visit www.educationmanagementagency.com.

Play and Grow Smart-er Tips

Nancy Pyne-Hapke, author of “Play and Grow Smart, A Guide Supporting Brain Development, Birth through Five,” has been giving tips to aid your child’s optimum skill development through proactive neuroscience-based activities every Monday.  These ideas come from scholarly sources to personal interviews, from the internet to periodicals to books.

“LANGUAGE/VOCABULARY” DEVELOPMENTAL SKILL DEFINITION: developing communications skills; articulating thoughts, feelings, needs; speaking, listening, reading, comprehending, writing, and spelling.

THE CRITICAL WINDOW during which the circuits of the brain are being most heavily wired for LANGUAGE/VOCABULARY: “Vocabulary” development is 2 years through adult. The more opportunity children have for positive language/vocabulary experiences during this critical period, the more efficiently their brains will work over the long run.

SOME DEVELOPMENTAL Language/Vocabulary: “Vocabulary,” Pt. 15, tidbits for the reading/literacy experience with your Toddler/Preschooler/Kindergartener focused on building a strong foundation for reading and literacy:

** LOOK CLOSELY and pay attention to the shapes of letters and shapes of words.

**           common features among words: same beginning sounds like Red Rooster, same ending sounds like siT and caT, beginning consonsant blends like CLock and CLass , ending consonant blends like plaNT and teNT, rhymes like mOUSE hOUSE.

** HELP PREDICT an unknown word, sound out initial letters, look for clues in illustrations, think about meaning and context.

** ENCOURAGE SELF-CORRECTING – support that if a guess about what’s to happen isn’t right, try again to make an appropriate prediction.

Next week – Tactile Developmental skills (includes Taste)

Handpainted Wall Murals by Gina

Whoever came up with the expression “A picture speaks a 1,000 words” knew what they were talking about. So skip the 1,000 words where Gina would wax poetically about how a beautiful mural painted by a professional artist like herself can transform a room. Gina can take just about any idea you might have ranging from a galaxy in the room of a boy obsessed with space, to a farm for a girl who loves animals, to an outdoor scene for a windowless bathroom, and make it come true!

Imagine instead a remote temperature monitor that was a sensor able to measure, record and store the temperature for the whole of the last 24 hours

Imagine a temperature monitor that alerted you when it was too hot or too cold. Imagine if it ran on easily replaced batteries that lasted a whole year, was beautiful to look at and yet durable enough to leave outside through the wet, cold winters. Finally imagine if it did all of this through something you will often have with you – your phone. Well you can stop imagining, it is here. Welcome to Tempo, our affordable Bluetooth Smart temperature sensor. It does all of this, and more, which is why we describe it as a very useful thermometer.
