Your Jr. Chef can make Craig Claiborne’s Pasta con Asparagi

Sounds pretty exotic, huh.  While pasta water comes to a boil, prep asparagus and cook to crisp-tender. Make sauce (canned plum tomatoes, garlic [gets discarded], parsley, basil, s&p) and cook pasta. Off the fire, vigorously stir in beaten egg to hot tomato sauce, and mix in waiting asparagus, drained pasta and cheese. Serve with more parm on the side. Parental supervision.

Adolescence and anger

During adolescence (the long-drawn-out process of insurrection when a young person actively and passively challenges and ultimately overthrows the rules and demands of parental authority), your child’s anger is something to be expected and accepted and is not a problem to be eliminated. What is anger? Is there a high-anger parental figure in your family that’s judgmental, controlling and takes things personally? a low-anger parental figure that is low-controlling/adaptive, accepting/tolerant and who depersonalizes adversity? 3 thoughtful strategies to understand for managing anger, both adolescents’ and yours.

Your Jr. Chef can make powerfully flavorful tapenade

You can buy it in a jar, but why not customize it to your taste? Sometimes called olive salad, its deep, rich, slightly pungent flavor is made of olives blended/crushed/finely chopped into a paste (from chunky to smooth) with other ingredients, usually including (different combinations of) capers, anchovies, (roasted) garlic, parsley, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red pepper, basil, thyme, mustard, lemon juice, oil, pepper.

Anchovy-less: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Kalamata-Olive-Tapenade/

Some ways to use tapenade include as a dip, with crackers/crusty bread, with beef/lamb/meaty fish, added to oil/vinegar for salad dressing, a spoonful as a bed for tender-crisp vegetables, spread on a panini, as a baked potato topper, as a pasta sauce element, creamed into a compound butter, stuffing mushrooms, in an omelet.

On a Black Jack Cheeseburger.
