New Cooking show on the Food Network

Just how far is a chef willing to go to win a cooking competition? Cutthroat Kitchen hands four chefs $25,000 and the opportunity to spend that money on helping themselves or sabotaging their competitors. Ingredients will be thieved, utensils destroyed and valuable time on the clock lost when these chefs compete to cook delicious dishes while also having to out plot the competition. With Alton Brown as the devilish provocateur, nothing is out of bounds when money changes hands and we see just how far one chef will go to insure they have the winning dish. Produced by Embassy Row for Food Network. Email erikalandin@yahoo.com.

LA County Road Conditions / Grades
The LA times published a really helpful article on local road conditions and their official “grade” with their maintenance department, along with an interactive map on sections of roads across LA County. The article discusses funding conditions, focusing on the lack of local and federal funding resources for basic road maintenance due to deteriorating tax receipts and high road utilization. While the squeaky wheel gets the oil, the article is not optimistic about long term trends unless local city priorities shift.

Your Jr. Chef can make vegetarian “meatloaf”

Good practice chopping (where is that knife sharpener, anyway?). Combine cooked brown rice, dry onion soup mix, celery, cashews, dried sage, bread crumbs, green pepper, parsley. There’s nothing like using hands (clean) here, but if you’re squeamish, get surgical or thin rubber gloves and dig in. Place mixture in loaf pan, bake and enjoy. Parental supervision.
