I had the best experience at Westside Tile and Stone, Inc. and wanted to share

“I randomly wondered into this 9300 square foot award winning showroom last summer to find an entire team of experienced in-house designers that were willing to help me find what I needed. They represent 250+ different suppliers of exquisite tile and stone materials. They have earned a reputation for its vast selection, superb customer service, and technical knowledge. They can turn even the smallest bathrooms/kitchens into marvelous creations. The store has all setting materials and tools needed for all types of installations; commercial or residential, as well as an extensive list of licensed contractors that have been working with them for 15+ years. Do you remember candy buttons or candy dots?

Those teensy pieces of candy sold on paper strips? Make your own. Kid-friendly preparation: powdered sugar and egg whites (you can buy pasteurized raw eggs) whipped in a stand mixer then flavor/color added. Cutting a teeny tip in a sandwich bag, squeeze dots out onto the paper side of freezer paper. Let dry and store in airtight container. Recipe makes “a lot.”

A more professional take, starting with making royal icing:

Consider making these candies for special events (weddings, birthdays, anniversaries) coloring/flavoring them for the occasion.

Your Jr. Chef can make stuffed cabbage, many ethnic styles

This recipe is a template, really. Read the comments for varieties of meats, seasonings, national versions. What they have in common is limp cabbage leaves wrapped around something yummy, and cooked surrounded by some sort of tomato sauce. Stuffing’s include raw ground meat (single meat or combos – beef, chicken, sausage, turkey, pork) mixed with a binder (milk-/water-soaked bread or cooked rice/barley/spelt/quinoa) and spices (some or all: sage, rosemary, garlic, cinnamon, parm). Buy a light-for-its-size cabbage – it’ll be easier to get untorn leaves. Comments suggest freezing the cabbage therefore skipping the blanching-leaves step. Start, of course, with clean little hands – they’re the best tools for this kind of preparation. Parental supervision.

http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2013/02/italian-stuffed-cabbage/

Here’s Mario Batali’s vegetarian version. There are many more non-meat versions out there.
