Play and Grow Smart-er Tips
Nancy Pyne-Hapke, author of “Play and Grow Smart, A Guide Supporting Brain Development, Birth through Five,” has been giving tips to aid your child’s optimum skill development through proactive neuroscience-based activities every Monday.  These ideas come from scholarly sources to personal interviews, from the internet to periodicals to books.
“LANGUAGE/VOCABULARY” DEVELOPMENTAL SKILL DEFINITION: developing communications skills; articulating thoughts, feelings, needs; speaking, listening, reading, comprehending, writing, and spelling.
THE CRITICAL WINDOW during which the circuits of the brain are being most heavily wired for “LANGUAGE/VOCABULARY: VOCABULARY” development is 2 years through adult.  The more opportunity children have for positive language/vocabulary experiences during this critical period, the more efficiently their brains will work over the long run.
SOME DEVELOPMENTAL “Language/Vocabulary: VOCABULARY” tidbits for the reading/literacy experience with your Toddler/Preschooler focused on building a strong foundation for reading and literacy:
– LOOK FOR similarities between what you and your child have just read and your own lives or other books.
– DISCUSS WHAT is really taking place in the story and between the words and pictures.
– TELL THE STORY again in your own words or by acting it out.
– REMEMBER SECTIONS of the text to encourage prediction skills.
– REPEAT PHRASES to support pretend, reading and successful early reading attempts.
– PLAY OFF THE RHYTHMS and patterns in the text and build on the read-aloud experience by humming, singing along, and reading with expression.
Next week – Language/Vocabulary: Vocabulary, Pt. 6.

Represents the up and coming voice of the new generation of young talented “Florentine” leather stylists, inherited from the traditional family business. Jennifer launched her career at CK in NYC then she returned to expand the family business in Florence. Florence itself made it easy for Jennifer to develop her taste for the beauty and uniqueness of that city naturally appreciating its craftsmanship, its colors, the treasures of Art and buildings. Interestingly Jennifer visualizes “minimal” in each work of art something one can see in her creations. Now Jennifer is showing her new collections in the States.
