Open Call 2016: Play Debuts at Barnsdall Park
Upcoming exhibition Open Call 2016: Play kicks off on August 14th at Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) at Barnsdall Art Park (4800 Hollywood Boulevard). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) and LAMAG continues its commitment to emerging SoCal artists with this community-based, thematic biennial, which explores the notion of “play” in all its forms. This year’s Open Call continues what is among the largest and longest running non-juried exhibitions in Los Angeles. On view through September 18, the show is set to showcase the provocative and whimsical work of more than 300 promising artists from across Southern California selected by former LAMAG curator Scott Canty.

Developed from the two major rhythmic influences in my life: Baba Olatunji and the TaKeTiNa rhythm method. Baba’s curriculum is joyous, connecting us to our earth-based roots– learning with drum, song and dance. TaKeTiNa is a method enabling us to feel rhythm directly in the body– without an instrument. Together, these modalities form an opportunity for a deepened experience of feeling and connecting to ourselves and others through music and movement.

Your Jr. Chef can make Chicken Parmesan Mac/Cheese Bites
Cook 1 C pasta (ww mac recommended), drain, set aside. In same pan, cook minced garlic in butter/oil, whisk in flour then milk. Whisk in shredded mozzarella and grated Parm until smooth. Add in cooked chicken pieces, oregano and fresh chopped tomato, and then 2 beaten eggs. Stir in cooked pasta, and spoon mixture into sprayed 12-C muffin pan. Cook about 10 min, and cool a bit before removing. Tomato sauce for dipping, optional. Pasta muffins can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 mo. Perfect for little fingers, a potluck or party buffet table. Parental supervision.
