University Women of AJU Presents: Iranian Jewish Women: Between Religion and Culture

Saba Soomekh, Ph.D., offers a fascinating look at the lives, culture, and religious and ritual observance of three generations of Iranian Jewish women in the United States. Most of Iran’s Jewish community immigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles in the wake of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the government-sponsored discrimination that followed. This program is offered by University Women of American Jewish University. Tickets for this lunch and learn event are $25-36.

Stone Canyon Creek once was a dominant feature of the UCLA campus, but as the campus expanded, the creek was routed underground and eventually forgotten. Several years ago, the creek was rediscovered and with the help of volunteers, the creek was uncovered, invasive vegetation removed, native plants planted, and monthly volunteer events held to transform the site.
