KidsCanCode – Learn to Code and Make Video Games

        

Learning to code is a great life skill, and a KidsCanCode summer camp is a great way to get started. Beginner classes start at age 8 (typing required). For older kids: playing games is easy, but making them is hard! Game development is challenging, math-intensive, and very rewarding. Butterflies are coming to Calabasas

        

Sunday, April 23rd at Valley Outreach Synagogue

        

3pm – Holocaust Memorial Service

        

3:30pm –  “NOT the Last Butterfly” Screening

        

4:30pm –  Paint ceramic butterflies

        

The Butterfly Project is a call to action through the arts, using the lessons of the Holocaust to educate about the dangers of hatred and bigotry. Children in grades 5+, teens and adults are invited to paint ceramic butterflies in memory of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust. Following a brief memorial service, you will view the documentary “NOT The Last Butterfly.” With paintbrushes in hand, decorate ceramic butterflies that will become part of a permanent installation in the new VOS Center for Jewish Life. Camp Helping Hands – Where Kids Make a Difference

Camp Helping Hands (CHH) began as a summer camp project and has become Southern California’s premier service-learning summer camp for young children. The goal behind every CHH program is to get young children involved in their community by way of service-learning. Fresh Food Drive at the Calabasas Farmers Market Hosted by Local Youth for Global Youth Service Day

Local 11-year old Lucy Babcock is hosting a Fresh Food Drive at the Calabasas Farmers Market for her Global Youth Service Day project. Stop by the porch of Blackbird General Store to donate your homegrown or purchased fresh fruits, vegetables, and breads. All donations will be collected by Food Forward at the end of the market. While there, listen to the youth musicians Lucy has invited to play and get your tickets to Lucy’s Kid’s Charity Concert Sunday, April 30th from 1-6pm at the Topanga Community Center.

Make a difference in the LA community and join 9,000(!) volunteers of all ages and backgrounds in the largest urban river cleanup in America. Friends of the LA River (FOLAR) returns with the 28th Annual Great LA River CleanUp: La Gran Limpieza (CleanUp)! In 2016, the CleanUp brought together Angelenos from all over to remove 70 tons of trash from the River. This year, the 3-weekend event will be held at 14 sites along the 51-mile long LA River. Join other passionate volunteers and make a difference in the River community, learn more about the River with FOLAR’s mobile education center (the LA River Rover), and enjoy entertainment, goodies, and refreshments.
