Pharmacology Research Institute is Now Enrolling Patients for Study of New Treatment for Depression
Now screening patients for enrollment in Phase III clinical trials for agomelatine, a novel investigational treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD). This Clinical Trial Program, called parAGOn, is sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation and will include both short-term and long-term efficacy studies. More than 2,000 patients and 200 study centers in the United States will participate in the parAGOn program, which is open to patients between the ages of 18 and 70 who are experiencing MDD and meet other eligibility criteria. This investigational new drug targets both melatonergic receptors and the serotonin (5-HT2c) receptor.  MDD is the most common mood disorder, affecting approximately 15 million American adults. Common symptoms include: depressed mood, loss of interest in daily activities, poor concentration, weight loss (or gain), decrease of appetite, sleep disturbance, feelings of worthlessness and/or of guilt, and suicidal ideation.
