Today in History
*Harriet Beacher Stowe publishes the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin . (1852)
*International Earth Day – Always on Vernal Equinox
International Earth Day was initiated to make earth inhabitants aware of their responsibility to care for the planet. This care includes environmental and natural resources. International Earth Day was founded by John McConnell, of Davis City, Iowa. In September, 1969, he proposed the establishment of Earth Day to the San Francisco, California Board of Supervisors. After approval, he gained support from many others, including then UN General Secretary, U Thant. In 1970, McConnell wrote an Earth Day Proclamation which was ultimately signed by UN Secretary General U Thant on March 21, 1971. This day is also called Sun-Earth Day. Important Note: International Earth Day is different from the U.S. Earth Day.
*Spring Vernal Equinox
The Spring (or Vernal) Equinox brings days and nights in equal proportions. It is simply the day when there is exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of nighttime. But, did you know that this is only true on the Equator? For the rest of us, there is more or less depending upon where we live on the planet. We won’t go any deeper than that as this site is not a science course. The other thing to note is that the Spring Equinox is just a calendar date. From a standpoint of weather in your area, real spring arrives sooner or later depending upon where you live in the Northern Hemisphere. The Persian New Year begins on the Spring Equinox

Jens List member is looking for a nanny named Mercedes
She takes care of a little boy named Samuel (looks to be 3 or 4) & she took a bag of toys that didn’t belong to her.  The bag had a pair of little boy’s shoes in it.  Recently, Mercedes and Samuel were at Irving Schacter park in Beverlywood and the owner of the toys confronted Mercedes and took back her children’s toys.  The owner asked about the missing shoes and Mercedes said they were in her car but refused to get them.  She reportedly threw the shoes in the trash at Irving Schacter after the owner left.  If you know the family who Mercedes works for, please contact the owner of the stolen goods at
